For visitors seeking day hikes, back-country overnight trips, and even car camping in barely traveled, splendid alpine scenery, the wilderness areas surrounding Marble are where you want to be.

Car Camping opportunities are plentiful in the Marble area. RV’s are welcome at Bogan Flats Campground along County Road 3 about midway between State Hwy. 133 and the Town of Marble. For those with high-clearance or four-wheel drive vehicles, there are Forest Service designated car camping spots at various places along the jeep road to Crystal City. Most of these are between the jeep road and the river in environmentally sensitive habitat, and therefore are closed off from time to time for natural reclamation to occur. There are more car camping locations beyond the old mining town of Crystal City to the right past the beaver ponds, along the river, where the jeep trail turns left and ascends toward Schofield Pass and the Lead King Basin turn-off.

Bogan Flats Campground is 25 miles south of Carbondale. It is located adjacent to the CrystalRiver. It is one of the most scenic and therefore popular campgrounds on the Sopris District. The group site is located about ¼ mile east of the campground.
